Where have we been?

The North Shore beach.  There is nothing more wonderful then walking out your back door to this...
That cute little yellow A frame in the background is the in-laws beach house.
Halewia can be seen to the right from our shore...

Sea turtle up on shore getting a tan.

The bike path near the beach house.  Goal for the next month... to get the kids off training wheels
The kids and I took a bus ride to Halewia for some yummy shaved ice and lunch.

 Where we are...

4th Triathlon completed for 2013.  Na Whine Tri in Honolulu.

No doubt we are missing the LT on our extended vacation to the Island.
He is off to war but he still managed to find Texas... even over in the Middle East!
Big trucks and big guns... every boys dream!

The summer has been complete with Colton here in Virginia... and we had to start his trip off right eating seafood at the waterfront in downtown Norfolk.

Since the Chesapeake Bay is practically in our backyard, we visit almost daily...
 Busch Gardens in Williamsburg ...
I ran a 5K on our Navy Base and convinced Colton to complete it with me...he made it, but it was hot.  This kid also swam a mile while at scout camp!

Our failed attempts to get pictures of "all of us" on the 4th of July... obviously taking self portraits are not my forte.  The older boys spent the holiday at scout camp.  So we played at the beach and watched fireworks on the bay.

We were so excited that Llama Llama was going to make an appearance at our local library, we love the books!
Sadly, our summer is coming to an end in a few short weeks... I have two more races I've been training for and then the little ones and I will jet off to Hawaii to spend 2 months basking in paradise. We can't wait!

In Navy tradition...

Change of Command Ceremony
Finally got a picture of the LT in his summer whites.
He rarely gets to sport these but when he does the this sailor sure looks great!
His command got a new CO today and it was fun to experience another great Navy tradition!

Ocean City

 Ocean City, MD
The LT was there for work, and I use that term loosely since he had so much down time, so the kids and I took the short drive to visit.
The Atlantic Ocean is still very cold, but the kids did not mind at all...
there were rocks for climbing...
 sand for making sand angels...
 sea gulls swarming someones lunch...
 and kites for flying.
That is our hotel and the beautiful boardwalk in the background.

We took the afternoon and drove to Assateague Island National Seashore, home of the wild horses.  I apparently had no idea that horses lived wild anywhere!  The horses were not afraid of people and walked right up to us.  To keep the population of the horses to a maintainable number the park rangers shoot the females with birth control darts every year.

The visitor center at the park also introduced us to the Whelk, a sea snail.  That long rope that is coming out of the Whelk is the egg sac.  The egg sac rope will eventually be about 3 feet long and connected together are hundreds of pods filled with hundreds of eggs.
And we played with the horseshoe crab, a harmless crab found all over our beaches.  Looks like something from the prehistoric era.
We stayed and played for a few days and then made our way back to our side of Virginia on the famous Chesapeake Bay bridge-tunnel.  It is 23 miles of bridges and tunnels over the Chesapeake Bay, all water.
I still get nervous driving over and under water, but it is amazing that such a thing exists.

Life from the seat of a Surrey bicycle... in Ocean City, MD

Renting a Surrey bike was absolutely delightful
and with a horn and a bell we were the loudest Surrey on the boardwalk...
