The Glass Box
This afternoon, I planned an extra special "surprise" roadtrip for my boys, expecially Colton who loves surprise roadtrips. In fact he loves them so much that every 3 minutes you could hear him ask , "Where are we going again, becuase I'm hungry and thirsty and I want to ride my bike!", which is really code for don't tell me because I am so excited that I can't wait. After strapping everybody in we headed off to a small town about 15 minutes away that holds the most fantastic object which has obsessed (haunted?) me since the first time I saw it 10 years ago.... a giant Jesus statue in a glass box. The roadtrip was thanks to my wonderful husband, who for the past few months has listened to me dwell on the statue and the way that it kinda creeps me out, so much in fact that I get chills and my heart beats whenever I think about it. So being the dear that he is, started asking people around this small town about the Jesus and found out that it is open to the public and people can walk inside. He was thrilled to share this information with me even though he knew that it would make my obsession even worse. As I agonized daily over what could be inside the glass box and what the Jesus looked like up close, I decided to pull myself together and go face to face with the statue. Upon pulling up to the large glass box, Colton was thrilled to find out that there were stairs inside and set out to see how many times he could run up and down them. Even better he discovered there were fake candles with small red buttons that if pushed would light them up... unfortunately for Colton, I told him that he had to make a donation in order to press a button... he was pretty bummed he didn't have any coins! After posing for a few pictures I ruined the party by telling Colton that it was time to go. Climbing back into the car, I could see the disappointment of leaving on Colt's face and while driving out Colton said, "Next time we come to the Jesus statue I'm gonna bring lots of quarters!"

oh my goodness that freaks me out everytime i drive past it!! yet i always strain my neck to get a better look!! Ive never been inside. Im not brave enough!
I can see why you were haunted by it! That's so funny that Colton got such a kick out of it!
What the heck is the story behind it? Left me hanging!!!! That is creepy and whats even more creepy is you took pictures and posted it on your blog!
Hey Bethany. I guess I'll have to start stalking your blog, too! Your boys are growing up so fast!
I feel the same it creeps me out to. There is a really large cross, the largest ever I think about 45 min. outside amarillo. I don't remember if it's on I-40 or Hwy 287, anyway I have never stopped but there are different statues of Christ carrying the cross, that one creeps me out to. I haven't stopped at either one. Here I found the page :) http://www.crossministries.net/
